Does anyone agree that extraneous motions are unnecessary?

Extraneous and unnecessary are synonyms, so yes, extraneous motions are, by definition, unnecessary. But I don't agree that moving to the music and playing with emotion is necessarily extraneous. That's why people still pay to see live music instead of just listening to the CD. Now I would agree that a lot of the pop stars of today put a lot of extraneous movement into their performances, but I would also state that most of the pop stars of today are pretty extraneous in and of themselves.
