Shoelaces as belts?!?!?

I know this has been "in style" for a while for guys. No offense to anyone who does this, but WTF! Is a shoelace really gonna keep your pants from falling down? I just want to know why guys find it stylish to wear shoe accessories around their waist...cause I think it looks really retarded
